STAR STUDDED PIRATE’S PREMIERE RAISES OVER €50,000 FOR GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL
The annual swashbuckling ‘Pirates Ultimate Adventure’ charity premiere supported by Thomson Holidays and held in Majorca last April, raised a whopping €54,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital. The cheque was presented to the hospital last week by representatives both from Pirates and Thomson Holidays.
The premiere was attended by celebrities such as former England rugby union player and Dancing on Ice winner, Kyran Bracken, investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre, and some of the cast from Coronation Street and Emmerdale including Corrie’s Sue Cleaver who plays Eileen Grimshaw. They were all entertained by the fantastic acrobatics of the Pirates during the show. The real stars of the night however, were five children who have all been treated at the hospital at one time or another. They were flown out to Majorca with their families for the premiere, courtesy of Thomson and First Choice. They all enjoyed a much needed family holiday at the Aquasol Aparthotel, which was made extra special by the VIP attention plied on them by the cast of Pirates and the celebrities who attended.
The money raised, through ticket sales and a charity auction, will go towards supplying equipment for the brand new state of the art operating theatres at the hospital – which were also funded by the same event in 2010. Over the last few years Pirates has raised over €500,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. The money raised last year will help treat children with complex neurological and craniofacial conditions by funding state-of-the-art operating equipment within a new children’s Centre for Neurosciences.
